Celebrating Community and Culture: A Spotlight on Josie Lin’s Contributions

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it is often easy to overlook the heroes among us, the individuals who dedicate their time and energy to bring communities together and foster a deeper understanding of our rich and diverse cultural heritage. Today, we take a moment to appreciate one such individual, our very own Josie Lin.

We are incredibly proud to announce that Josie Lin, the driving force behind many of our community initiatives, has recently been awarded a certificate of recognition from the Fort Bend County Judge. This acknowledgment is for her outstanding efforts in organizing the Lunar New Year event held annually at Katy Asian Town.

For those who are unaware, the Lunar New Year celebration is a significant cultural event that brings our community together in a vibrant showcase of Asian culture. Each year, this event draws Houston residents to Katy Asian Town, and even before the festivities begin, our team is inundated with inquiries about the event. This year was no different.

Despite only returning to the US from a four-month stay in Taiwan just in time for the event, Josie, with her infectious enthusiasm and unwavering commitment, led her team to host a spectacular celebration. The event was a colourful medley of craft activities, calligraphy workshops, and the exciting dragon and lion dances. The festive atmosphere and the joyful spirit of the community were palpable, creating unforgettable memories for everyone involved.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our incredible team at UMRE Office. Their contributions, both big and small, played a crucial role in the event’s success. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the following individuals:

  • Jenny Zhang, who oversaw Event Planning
  • Chiao Lin, who handled Event Promotion
  • Chen Chen, who captured the event beautifully through On-site Photography
  • Candy Liu, who managed Registration
  • And our dedicated UMRE office staff and volunteer partners, who transformed the venue with their amazing Decoration efforts

Josie’s recognition is not just a personal achievement; it is a testament to our collective efforts and the community spirit we embody. It underscores our commitment to promote and celebrate the cultural diversity that enriches our community, and it encourages us to continue creating opportunities for cultural exchange and understanding.

As Josie said in her acceptance speech, “Let’s continue to celebrate and spread joy, happiness, and cultural diversity in our community!” Here’s to Josie, our team, and the vibrant community we serve. Let’s look forward to many more years of celebrating culture, unity, and the enduring spirit of our community.
